Democratic Party Candidate for Parke County Commissioner

Candidacy Announcement

David E. Burns announces his candidacy for Parke County Commissioner in District #1on the Democratic ticket. Burns moved to Park County eight years ago with his wife of 25 years, Peggy Foster, and built a home on Raccoon Lake. He and Peggy each have two grown children by previous marriages, and now have four grandchildren. He was born in Clay County, Indiana and has an Engineering Degree from Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology and a Master of Business Degree from Butler University. He retired from the Western Electric Co. (Now Lucent Technologies) as a Department Chief, Engineering. He served in various assignments in Indianapolis, Allentown, Pa. and Oklahoma City.

Burns has been very active in various volunteer and civic organizations over the last few years. These activities include: Chairman, Parke County Board of Zoning Appeals; Steering Committee, Parke County Comprehensive Land Use and Economic Development Plan; Board Member and past President, Raccoon Lake/Union Twp. Property Owners Association; Chairman, Raccoon Creek Fire Prevention District; Founding member, Parke County Non-Partisan Committee on Political Education; Director and past President, Sycamore Trails Resource Conservation and Development Council; Chairman and founding member, The Friends of Turkey Run and Shades State Parks; Treasurer and founding member, Ouabache Land Conservancy. He is an Indiana Master Naturalist and a graduate of the Purdue Natural Resources Leadership Development Institute.

Burns says he will strongly support all aspects of the Parke County Comprehensive Plan. He also will work to improve fire and medical first responder services through out the county.
